Heavy Jacket Replacement     On: 2010-02-24

I got this as a Xmas gift. I was a little disappointed when I saw the tag, because I was afraid it would be too small, but it fits perfectly. This is the coldest winter weve had in Nebraska for several years. But Ive worn this jacket every day since Xmas. Once, when it was quite windy, I was uncomfortable, but this jacket has been fine every other day.

The heavy jacket it replaced had a hood, and Ive missed that. I generally only need a jacket between being indoors and the car, and till the car warms up. I wouldnt expect it to replace the heavy jacket if I were outdoors longer.

OTOH, one shouldnt expect this kind of jacket to keep them warm in subfreezing temps unless theyre working hard or wearing added layers. I think Columbia has sized its jackets so you can add those extra layers, but you might consider that before you order. If you need more than one additional layer, order a size up.
the perfect fleece     On: 2010-02-14

This is pretty much the perfect fleece jacket especially when the price is considered. I like this jacket so much that I bought two of them, one for home and one to keep at work. I paid $30 both times. My dad also bought one as well as several of his friends. A jacket of this quality at this price is just too hard to pass up. The thickness of this fleece is just right for a cool days outside (50 degrees and up but I mostly wear it indoors at my office where its cool during the summer from the air conditioner as well as during the winter. I also wear it around the house in the winter. The construction quality of the jacket is excellent and I havent had any problems after a year of wearing it almost daily. The collar stays up and the zipper is sturdy. I also like the elastic cuffs on the sleeves. That way it fits people of varying arms lengths. On my jackets without elastic cuffs I often find that the sleeves are too long. The pockets zip which is nice and there is an adjustment cord around the waist of the jacket. I found that the sizing is perfect. I normally wear a large in shirts and jackets and a large in this jacket is just right.

I just wore my jacket for the first time today and the temp is about 51 degrees outside.Although the jacket is nice and well made,i can feel the wind blow right through it and it sends a chill up my spine.This is definitely not made for low temps but rather just a dress sport jacket.It is nice to have zippers on the pockets but i just wish the jacket were made a bit heavier.If you not gonna use it for long periods of outside use in cold weather ,the jacket will be fine,however if you plan on staying outside for long periods of time in 50 degree or lower weather i suggest getting something else.

I always pick garments with the Columbia brand over their competitors, not only because of their consistently high quality, but because if you get a broken zipper or some other defect, Columbia will replace the broken item with a new one. This happened to me a while back. Columbia actually donates many of their returned items to charity to be mended (if need be,) and distributed to the needy.

Other than that bit of praise for the manufacturer, there isnt much to be said that other reviewers havent covered. Its a thick, warm fleece jacket with a high collar and drawstring hems, a more substantial garment than a cheap fleece zip-up.

I bought these for our office staff as they are going in and out all day long alot and I wanted something that would hold up and look good. This jacket has exceeded my expectations and will get more for the future.

Tusk is Not a Good Color     On: 2009-02-18

My order came 3 weeks late. I took the advise of other buyers and bought a small size which is as big as my other medium size clothing. I was disappointed that I ordered a tusk color jacket which looks much whiter,
fashion on the screen. In fact, it is a dirty silver grey color that I am embarrassed to wear it to my office, or anywhere. Even wearing it at home my wife asked me where I got it from a second hand store. Its warm though. The cuff has no elastic.

Well, for its thickness it provides awesome warmth. Its not thick, its not very heavy but its pretty warm. Although its not for very cold weather..this could be the layer over your t-shirt and then a jacket if it gets too cold (by too cold i mean 2C to -15C). The only problem is, if you are a little fat or have that tummy, Dont take it !! Thats the only problem with columbia sweaters and hoodies. Although the jackets are fine, because they are oversized. At the bare minimum, i suggest you go to a store and see what size columbia fits you well, and then decide.

I am a woman, but stumbled across this exact jacket at a local thrift store, brand new with the tags on it. I origianlly bought it for my husband, but put it on one day and was completely hooked! It is warm and comfortable. It washes very well with no signs of fading or pilling. A terrific jacket, that i am never without. I am a bit confused by Columbia calling his a sweater, because it is not. It is made of a soft fleece. The sizing is generous. I wear it in a mens med. and i normally wear a size large in womens, misses. So this is a great unisex jacket. I will buy more. I have one in black and flint(a dusty blue color).

This is a nice fleece jacket; soft, thick and generously sized. The sleeves on the size Medium were long enough for a man with 34" sleeve length but the body of the jacket was not near long enough. Back Country made the return process very easy.

Columbia Steens Mountain fleece jacket
I bought this as a gift to my husband. The size I selected is perfect for him. Its color is called "dark adobe" and it goes with all colors of his pants. He loves it. Its warm on even the coldest of days. He gets lots of compliments every time he wears it. I love it because the price was affordable and because its machine washable and dryable. Hes hard to find gifts for, but this one was a perfect choice.

At $30 this is a basic fleece that far exceeds the quality of an Old Navy or off brand fleece. Warm and comfy, I wear this sucker every chance I get...Comfy enough for around the house and much nicer looking that my old torn sweatshirt...cant beat the quality at that price!

I bought one of these for myself and one for my wife. They are very nice jackets for mild weather. However, I bought the 3XL-Tall for myself and does not fit like a TALL. The tag says 3XLT but the length is similar to a couple of other jackets I do not like wear that are normal length. It is a very nice jacket but I probably will not wear often since it is short in length.

Columbia (Sportswear) brand logo with Made in Vietnam tag is one thing, but the jacket as a whole that does not seem to hold up firm on your body is indicative that Columbia is somewhat degrading in quality build. I forewarn all those that expect a solid fleece jacket to be ready for a more slouchy type of soft fabric, unlike how it has been pictured on the Amazon listing. For the price and brandname thats behind it, I would give it only 3 stars, and reluctantly keep it, thus obviate otherwise the pain for returning it.

Ordered it for $26.00 and got the free shipping then it went on sale and received a $4.00 refund..... Item is very nice and comfortable. I like the fact that it is a FULL zip and not a pullover. The "intense red" color is not as vibrant as they say/show but that is not a problem for me. Easy to wear while driving and washes nicely....just remember that it is fleece and the collar points will curl up on you if you dry it too HIGH and too long........ best to air dry!!!!! all in all a 9/10

Then, an inside pocket is needed, since this really is a jacket. The zipper isnt lined up properly. That makes the fit even worse, when its zipped up. Ill keep this one because I like the color and thats the only reason. I also ordered a grey, but it came with a broken zipper I couldnt get to zip. I returned it. This was a bad choice for me, since Im taller, but Ill wear it around the house. It does provide warmth and I like the fleece feel.

I bought one of these last year and wore it almost everyday. It still looks good after many washings and such so I just bought another one for this winter but in a different color. I saw other name brand sweaters for twice the price but can not believe they could be better than the Columbia brand. I would suggest buying early to get best color/size choice as they sell out fast.

This is without a doubt the warmest fleece that I have ever owned. The elastic on the wrists can get a bit tight, but that can be fixed with a few good stretches. I love this thing, and my wife borrows it from me more than I wear it!

I bought this kind of sweater in Oct. 2006, actually I bought two, one is black the other one is chrocoal. and they are really nice. It is comfortable if you use your hand to touch the cloth, I do like this kind of feel, my ex-girl friend, of course likes that 2.(that time she was not seperated to me).

But the problem is, it is not made of cotton. I hate to get statelectricity sometime especially in dry and wind-blowing winter.

This is a great deal for $25. It is a little warm to wear in the house, but will help you survive outdoor temps as low as 40 degrees. The quality is really excellent, and I highly recommend this sweater from Columbia.

A well made light jacket     On: 2005-12-20

I just got this and it seems to be a very well made light jacket, suitable for casual wear on cool days and evenings, particularly when Im riding my bike or working outdoors and want something that will keep the chill off but not leave me sweltering and not restrict my movements. Cozy, yet flexible and breathable, this jacket fits my needs to a T.

This jacket has 2 zip-up pockets with lots of capacity.

There is no hood, but I find a hood useful only when scooting out to my car when its raining.

Theres an elastic drawstring around the bottom I dont think Ill need - it tightens via plastic spring-loaded doodads on each side.

The cuffs have elastic in them also, but not too much to be comfortable. I hate elastic cuffs that make me feel like my sleeves are bound to my wrists, but these are snug without being restrictive, just right!


Everything considered, I think this is a fine replaceent for my old fleece jacket, better made, good looking, and every bit as servicable. It wouldnt do for someone trying to survive in the Arctic, I dont suppose, but its just what I was looking for and Im happy as a clam.
