![]() Gay Games VI - Sydney 2002 "Under New Skies" Average Rating: 3.5 Total Reviews: 3 More Information The best documentation ever? Without doubt. This is one of the fairest representations of all gay games sporting events ever made. You can hear interviews from participants from all over the world and enjoy professionally shot material. If you were there you might see yourself (I was a participant and am in one of the shots). If you werent, then its all the more enjoyable as you will hear from out and proud gays and lesbians enjoying their sports. The DVD even has subtitles for hearing impaired and many of my deaf friends love it for this reason. I was so proud to be on the DVD I sent a copy to all of my family for Christmas presents. This is an incredible documentary of an event that I know received no funding other than the producers own money and he was adament the event be recorded for posterity. I am glad he did. Be a part of gay and sporting history with this documentary. Youve all heard of them. You all know the most recent ones were in Sydney. And hopefully youre all wondering what theyre all about. Its the Gay Games, the worlds most inclusive sporting event, and this documentary is an in depth look at the eight days, 31 sports, and 12,000 participants of the Gay Games VI-Sydney. This documentary is uplifting. The participants in--and the meaning behind-- the Gay Games are changing and reinventing both history and sporting events as a whole. It shows clips from all of the different sporting events and has heartfelt interviews with many of its participators. Though the filming is not spectacular, its the best documentation of the Gay Games to date, and it absolutely made me want to be a part of them. Buy this documentary and buy a piece of queer and sporting history Not Worth The Money If this is the most comprehensive collection of the Gay Games, the Games committee needs to reevaluate spending the money on video taping. The DVD menu selection, however hard the editors tried to make it interactive, doesnt do a very good job. The "highlights" of the games are simply that, extremely short snipets of the games. There are interviews intertwined throughout - which Im guessing are the only fools that would agree to be on video. Its a sporting event - show sporting activities. The panning of someones crotch is not what the Gay Games is about. And if you wanted to go that route, pan more crotchs and worthwhile ones at that! This video is okay, but I would have enjoyed a more, A LOT more comprehensive video of the Gay Games from start to finish. (By the way, the slideshow - way too slow and theres no way to view the pictures faster.) |
