best value i've seen     On: 2010-01-21

I have purchased 4 pair of Yukon Charlies. I use one pair and I have given the other 3 as gifts. The oldest (mine) are 9 years old, the rest are about 7 or 8 yrs old. I bought the gifts because I liked mine so much and couldnt find anything better for twice the price.
All 4 pair are used regularly, in fact two of us went out today for a couple of hours. There have been no design, quality or construction problems on any set. The shoes work great in any snow condition. The materials are excellent and the same as most other brands of shoe, high quality and put together well. The bindings are easy on and off and have never slipped. The bindings rotate underfoot on a high quality stainless steel pin. The crampons are tough and work well. The decks are nicely laced to the anodized frames for good grip in the snow. Every rivet is holding strong.
The 30" pair I own is perhaps larger than necessary for my weight (190) as I dont carry cargo and the extra length makes maneuvering in tight turns and trees more difficult than necessary. Its easier to step on your own tail but not hard to get used to either. The 820s that the two women are using are perfect for them, they cruise easily up, down and over. They both comment on the size being perfect for them and love their shoes. The 825s seem perfect for my other friends weight (190) and hes the hardest charger of us all.
Again, if theres a better snowshoe for the money, I dont know of it.

Enjoying winter     On: 2008-01-01

This is my first winter living "out in the country," and it seemed like a good year to get out in the fresh air. I set my heart on snowshoes for Christmas and my husband agreed that I should choose them myself.

I needed something good for a beginner, light and easy to maneuver, not too expensive, and not requiring special boots. Oh, and easy to get on and off; I have bad childhood memories of being "trapped" in the old bearpaw wooden snowshoes.

My choice was these Yukon Charlies Backcountry 825s. Today I took them for their first outing on the local snowmobile track and Im completely thrilled with them. Theyre incredibly light, yet the aluminum frames feel sturdy, and the crampons gave great stability on hills without dragging or sticking in any way.

The most amazing thing about these snowshoes is the bindings. It took a bit of fiddling to get the straps adjusted to fit, but once thats done theyre on and off in a flash with the Big Dog clips -- one on the heel strap and one across the instep. Amazingly stable on the foot, no slipping at all, and they shed the snow well. The bindings very flexible on the base but firmly enough mounted to make maneuvering simple, and it took me no time at all to get into a relaxed stride.

We went along a lightly groomed snowmobile trail and it felt so good that we struck across a field to look for deer and wild turkeys. Breaking a trail in two feet of snow was more challenging of course, but these 825s did great.

If your winters are snowy and you have any interest in getting out for some quiet exercise, I recommend snowshoeing and in particular these wonderful Yukon Charlies Backcountry 825s. Have fun!
