I run a high mountain camp and have tried many ice traction devises. In icy conditions, CAUTION, is always the most important factor, no matter what the devise. In walking indoors all devises can be hazardous, it depends on the care you use while walking. My staff and I have used Yaktraxs for years. For inside staff, regular Yaktraxs are the best. They put them on to walk from their cabin or car to the office and pop them off once inside. For my outside staff, the Yaktrax Pros cant be beat. They are rugged and dont ware out. The strap over the front of the boot keeps them in place in most situations. When coming inside it is best and easiest to slip the boots off and to step into indoor shoes. For long Life - take a little time - when putting "Traxs" on, make sure they slip into the grooves in the soles of the boots and if the end of a spring starts to catch, use a pair of pliers to squeeze it back into place. The Yaktrax Pros I have on now have lasted me for three years and counting. Great item, will buy again! These are great! What I like best is that they are not sharp to the touch and they are not heavy to wear. Some types are sharp and I worry about hurting myself when taking them off, but these are great. I did notice a few times one would come off one foot, but I easily put them back on. I do agree that they should not be worn inside on a tile or slippery floor, you could fall down. The pros far outweigh the cons and it sure beats slipping and falling on your bum on the ice like I did before the Yaktrax! Beats Falling on the Ice This wonderful invention allows me to live in a cold climate and stay upright, mostly a problem on ice... and some types of snow. I have lived in warm climates my whole life and was very unfamiliar with freezing tempatures. I put these on and mostly defy ice/snowy conditions. My pair has lasted me three seasons and show no sign of wear. I have recommended these to dozens of people and will continue to do so. Under no circumstances can you or should you wear them inside on almost any type of indoor flooring. You will likely fall (nothing for them to grip onto) if you ignore this advice, trust me, I did while entering a Safeway. Also, they will scratch wood & laminate flooring (probably others as well). I love this product and encourage you to give them a try. yaktrax are great I wear my yaktrax when walking or running in the early morning. Ive been able to get out more often since purchasing them because Im no longer afraid of slipping on the ice and snow. Ill be healthier thanks to my yaktrax purchase. excellent does what it purports to do. I finally dont fall down the hill I live on when its snowy and icy. Yaktrac not so great I have only had the Yaktracs for a short time & it consistently slips off my boots & I have slipped & fell once when wearing them. Lian Morton Yaktrax I bought Yaktrax for a gift. It arrived sooner than I expected and its a great product - really keeps you from sliding on the ice! Good, prompt service This was a gift to a relative, so I cant vouch for the product itself, but the item arrived on time with no problems in the ordering/delivery process. Im very satisfied. Great for winter running I have been an avid year-round runner for over 6 years. I always found winter running to be very uncomfortable due to the lack of traction (I live in the Colorado mountains). I found Yak Trax 2 years ago and now feel totally comfortable running over hard-packed snow and ice! They have never come off during a run, and I dont slip and slide anymore. Highly recommended for any outdoor winter enthusiast. Surprising by: Anonymous On: 2007-03-11 When I first got these, they looked too wimpy to be effective. I am surprised at how easy they slip onto your shoes and they really do keep you from slipping on ice. Weirdly enough, they are a little slippery on bare concrete. We have had a lot of snow and subsequent ice in our area over the last month. My street and drive are ice covered at least 1-2 inches thick and then it melts on top of the ice and it is impossible to stand up. I purchased the Yaktrax and let me tell you, they are worth every penny. I did not get the Pro model because I didnt know if I would like them. When I first got them I tied to go for a walk down the driveway with my regular New Balance running shoes (no Yaktrax) and could barely stand up... Kept sliding without even walking. Went back in the house and put the Yaktrax over my running shoes and went back outside. I was able to walk across the ice like it wasnt even there. I felt like I probably could run on the ice if I wanted, but didnt want to push it. I dont know how the Yaktrax will be in deep snow, but then you probably wouldnt need them there anyway. But on ice, they are super! I read some previous reviews that said they had problems with breakage. I make sure that the rubber bands are pulled high up onto the shoe and try to have the rubber bands on the bottom go between any grooves that I have on the bottom of the shoe. This is a long winded review to a low cost item but I wanted to make sure it gets the review that it deserves. Worked well but not for long I have a sloped concrete driveway that gets very slippery in the winter. The Yaktrax totally elimanted the slipping problem while removing snow. I wore them 3-4 times for a total of about 3-4 hours. Then one of the rubber straps with the spring gripper ripped lose on each Yaktrax while I was wearing them for the 4th time. I had them over hiking shoes, so that may have contributed to the failure. The Yaktrax are very light and would be good to have for an emergency. But for frequent use, I would be concerned about durability. Worked well but not for long I have a sloped concrete driveway that gets very slippery in the winter. I wasted a lot of time hunting for them again and again, so I got a size smaller to see if that would solve the problem, but then they broke after just a few uses from being stretched too much. In addition, the coils do not grip well on smooth ice and makes walking on hard floors a real slip-and-fall hazard if you forget to take them off when entering a home or business. I switched to Get-A-Grip ice cleats and have found them to be much safer on both packed snow and ice. not good for ice, and they're flimsy This product is okay on packed snow, but it tends to fall off your foot, especially in unpacked snow. I wouldnt dream of taking my dog on her daily walks without my Yaktrax. |
