I have been 100% satisfied with the Stabilicer Sport. I have extremely poor balance following a ruptured brain aneurysm and 2 spinal cord surgeries, and living in Wisconsin, dealing with icy sidewalks and driveways is a major problem for me during our long winters. The first traction aids that I tried were Yak Trax, which I generally liked, but they broke on me after one winter season of heavy (often daily) use. I am now on my second consecutive winter season with my first pair of Stabilicer Sport, and while I have had to change many of the replaceable screws after they became worn down (this has been our snowiest winter on record, and I am on month #4 of use this winter), the rubber portion of the Stabilicers is still in excellent condition. I have to walk several blocks to/from the bus stop, and having them on my hiking boots is not a problem getting on/off the bus. An awesome, safe product for a very reasonable price! On: 2007-12-31
I got the large size and have used them on about five 5-8 mile runs at night at an easy pace. I wear them over a size 11 Mens Vasque Stealth shoe. The road I run on has a max 7% grade and a mixed surface of hard pack snow, ice, and asphalt. Run at about 9,000 feet elevation, so the roads up here can get some snow.
I used to see running in the dark down an icy road as an adventure of a sort that one just had to deal with, but then I wanted to be able to access more icy trails if I desired without fearing another injury would hinder my life. I had the Yak Trax but saw them as something that wouldnt hold up running.
RESULTS: they were a little stiff at first putting onto my size 11s but stretch out in a little bit (probably be perfect on size 10 1/2). They have never slipped off and the straps they sent with them to attach them more securely have not been needed. I can pull them off in seconds (but sometimes just leave them on my shoes for days). When I run on the hard packed snowy roads I have to look down occasionally to see if they are still on as I cant feel them. I can feel them on asphalt, but they are not uncomfortable (and if they were I could just pop them off). I feel they are really nice to have when cars are passing me at night and I want to scoot across the road. May seem pricey, but are a cool thing to have and make you feel way more secure. I feel pretty psyched to have these even though I dont always use them. I wear them around our town sometimes and never fear a sidewalk. If you run in these conditions, or just dont want to bust a hip theyre great. Watch out for dinging up the wood floors.
