Excellent Pack for Hostelling     On: 2008-08-27

I recently went backpacking in Italy for a month and was very concerned about getting an affordable pack that I could lug around easily. This backpack is perfect for youth or a smaller woman (I am 51"). It carried everything I needed comfortably, though its true I wasnt camping. Straps do go over the side pockets, but are adjustable so its easier to take stuff out than slide back in. It is a top loading bag, but I didnt realize until I got it that it that there is a zipper up the middle, so you can either reach in from the top, or lay it flat and unzip and take things out from the bottom or middle. At any rate, I was very glad I took a backpack and this one fit my needs comfortably. Though I am no longer buying from Amazon.com since they continue to sell animal fighting magazines, I have no complaints about the bag itself.
Good value     On: 2008-06-02

I took this pack down to Central America for 10 days, and it worked out great- nice size, fairly comfortable. Only problem is that top seam; the top compartment is sewed across the back and part of the sides, making it difficult to open when full and the seam is now stretched- I wouldnt be surprised if it rips with much more wear. The material is thin like you would find in much more expensive ultralight packs, but I only had a problem with that top seam. Overall, still a good deal for the price.
6 trips. still going strong     On: 2008-05-20

For a bag which looks so flimsy this is one tough piece of equipment. It carries everything you need to go on solo treks in the himalayas. It held up even when I did some fast descents with a full load (about 20kilos) I plan to buy another one just in case they phase out the model.

Great camp out backpack     On: 2007-07-25

My son used it for a week long camp out with the scouts, everything fit in it, it was comfortable and easy to load/unload. Very happy with it.
Excellent pack--especially for the price...

I used this pack for a 3-day "hut-to-hut" trip in the White Mountains. I found it very comfortable (Im a 55" woman) and easy to pack. A couple of comments re: other reviews. As for the side pockets, it is true that the compression straps go OVER them, but you can pack water bottles and other things in there first, and then tighten them. Also, the pack is set up for a hydration bladder--great idea! There is even a clip for the mouthpiece right on the shoulder strap. Also, the pack has a zipper running down its length (under the padded compression area on the front) which would allow you to find items without unpacking everything. All in all, an excellent "entry-level" pack--that is, you dont want to spend a fortune on equipment when youre just starting out! You might only use it once, and for that, its a great deal. Then again...you might still be using this nice medium-sized pack years from now!
Terrific medium sized pack     On: 2007-07-18

The Pinnacle by Outdoor Products is an extremely durable and light weight pack. The suspension is very comfortable and fits youths and smaller women but also fits my 6 ft. 2 in., 200 lbs body very well. My torso is actually longer than is recommended by the manufacturer but I still find it comfortable. This purchase was for my second and third Pinnacles, for other family members. For the price and size it definitely cant be beat and I would say it is the equal of ANY pack of its cargo volume.
excellent outdoor backpack     On: 2007-01-30

It has a middle volume but can contain many things. It is very suitable for a short-time outdoor use.Although it just has two pockets, a primary one and a mini one on the top, its enough. Its very fast, I believe it can never broken with a regullar weight.
Good pack for the money     On: 2006-09-09

Took this brand new pack on a 3 night,4 day trip through the Sierras. I had my sleeping bag and bed roll straped to the bottom and had a tent wedged between the front panel and the pack itself. This pack was big enough to carry all the gear I needed for 4 days. The trails had major climbs up and down trails carved into granite. My pack weight was about 40lbs. The pack held together great. The extra lashing points on the front panel are handy when used with carabiners for small items such as water shoes, flashlight, sierra cup. My only real gripe is with the two side mesh pockets. They are rendered useless because the bottom adjustment/cinch straps are on the outside of the mesh pockets and the only thing you can get in there is a flat map. What I ended up doing was cutting two slits in each pocket and passed the the adjustment straps through the slits on the inside of the pockets. That gave me the use of the pockets back. In addition, the mesh pockets have little to no elasticity. With a full pack, it was still tough getting an item such as Sierra cup in the mesh pockets and impossible to get a 32oz water bottle in there. Anyway, for the money this pack is a good deal. I thought for sure this pack wouldve been in shreds after the trip. Well, after inspecting it after the trip, no rips, no bad seams, nothing torn or broken.
Good price but cheap quality     On: 2006-08-23

Similar to the other reviewer, my seams ripped the first time i used it. I dont like top loading as well, but it seems pretty common. Would avoid and spend an extra $20 and get something else.

It does fit into carry on regulations, however.
poor quality     On: 2006-02-19

Although the pack looks OK at first glance, a seam at the top ripped the first time I used it....Im returning it.
