  Yakima Universal Mighty Mount - Set of 4 By: Yakima Average Rating: 3.5 Total Reviews: 2 More Information Not as easy as I thought  On: 2006-03-13I purchased the universal mighty mount package thinking that it might be an affordable way to use my old yakima racks.(1994) The tool provided did not fit the nuts that are required for installation. The directions are a little vage on how to mount the ski racks once the mounts are attached to the vehicle. (It doesnt state any instructions)I went to the web site for help, but no luck. I had to use my own parts to attach the ski rack to the mounts because my rack has these large wing type nuts that arent compatible with the mighty mounts (no clearance) I havent test drove the rack yet, but it seems secure. Yakima quality  On: 2005-07-14These configure nicely to my 05 Sienna minivan and would have worked equally well on my just-sold 97 Explorer. Both vehicles have factory roof racks, making Yakima towers unnecessary. This keeps the cost down considerably, since you dont need to shell out for the crossbars, either. Yakima sells a bunch of other adapters - probably more readily available at your local sporting goods store - but these run only a few bucks less than the universal ones, which allow you to slap many more Yakima racks up there. Handy for cross-training surfers, kayakers, travelers, etc. Maybe someday for me. Installation or removal requires slightly less patience than assembling an entertainment unit from Target, so plan on taking your time. (Using the specific Yakima adapters makes the job quite a bit easier.) It helps having another persons assistance. Definitely put a thick blanket on your cars roof to avoid marring the surface from the inevitable slip-up. Yakimas locking system tacks on some bucks to your arrangement, which you need since these adapters are relatively simple to remove, even with a bike planted firmly in them. Sigh...just think how much money we could all save if there werent any thieves around... |
