We got this bag and another ski bag to carry out skis/cross country skis/boots overseas to France. In this bag we fit two pairs of downhill skis and two pairs of cross country ski boots. The bag is padded but not enough to ensure no damage during a flight--its easy to pad the bag since it is quite roomy--I stuffed all of our ski clothes/hats/gloves and put a cardboard around the outside of all the clothing. On the way home we stuffed the bag with all of our overseas acquisitions and weighed in at 50 pounds at the airport--just enough to get by. The bags are easy to check at the airline counter--no questions asked and it usually comes up on the regular bagage conveyor belt. The wheels make it nice to pull on flat surfaces.
