Fits the bill for sure!     On: 2008-09-17

Ive never been a serious backpacker so filter accordingly. Ive used basic aluminum frame packs for 35 years now; usually 2-5 night trips over fairly rough country. Its not the age now as much as the mileage-enough to drive me to upgrade.

This pack cost as little or less than my 35 year old aluminum frame pack cost back in the day and it provides all the basic features one needs. The amount of space to weight ratio is good, the straps and pads are comfortable, it rides well with a load and it has enough pouch size variety to keep handy things handy. You can whine about this and that in a pack but this one will get you going with little investment and a high probablity of reliability over years of use.

Hike on brothers and sisters! Hike on!
Great Value     On: 2008-06-23

I bought this product for a trip to the Boundary Waters in MN, and it was perfect. Durable material, comfortable straps, and the perfect amount of space for my gear. All of that plus the price cant be beat. I looked at REI and other outdoor retailers and there were similar bags for 5x the price!! If you want a sturdy pack at a great price, this is the one. There isnt anything that Ive noticed being wrong with this pack, I suppose it only depends on whether or not you want a brand name pack for a lot more money.
Great pack for the money.     On: 2008-06-22

I bought this pack for a 4 day backpacking trip in the Olympic national park. When it arrived in the mail I was impressed with the quality considering it was only $40 and was 4000ci. It held up very well on the trip. I was carrying some extra clothes, food, a sleeping bag, a little propane tank for our stove, a tent, first aid kit and several other things. Overall my pack was around 40 pounds and it was about as comfortable as a 40 pound pack could be.

I only had three complaints. First, there was no rain cover included with the pack, but this wasnt a big deal because i was able to find one for $10. Second, the top pocket doesnt detach for use as a smaller waist pack. Many packs have this feature, but it wasnt something I expected for a pack in this price range, so I wasnt really disappointed at all. Third, one of the strap buckles seemed to not want to stay buckled if you pulled on it to hard (to test and make sure everything was fastened securely). It never actually came loose during use though.

Overall it is a very good pack for the money. I have no regrets in buying it. If you went to REI or any shop like that, you would be looking to spend at least $100 for something similar.
