Everything was solid ice this morning and cars were fishtailing. I was not looking forward to the one mile walk to work from the parking garage. But I put on my Yaktrax and while other people were walking in snow to avoid the ice, I was able to keep my usual pace on the ice sidewalk. The grip is great. The only thing is to remember to take them off as soon as you get in to your building, on solid, non-carpeted, indoor flooring, you may actually slip. Yaktrax Walker Traction Cleats for Snow and Ice Love my Yaktrax! I would recommend this product to anyone that has to be out in icy or slick conditions. You can walk with confidence you will not slip and fall. Next year I will order these for family members at Christmas. These are a must if you can't afford a fall on the ice. I walk with a cane, which is equipped with an ice cleat as well. I have a very bad back which causes me constant pain. Falling on the ice is something that can and has in the past required me to spend time recovering in the hospital. I had often simply stayed home-bound until ice melted because of my fear of falling until I found these shoe cleats. They are something I simply can not live without now. I live in Indiana which is subject to frequent ice storms. The area is often covered in a uniform layer of very slick ice that is impossible to walk on for a person in good shape, let alone me. Since finding these Yaktrax Walker Traction Cleats, I am able to check my mail, drive carefully to the store and go on and live my life normally without the constant fear of slipping and falling on the ice during the winter. They have given me back the freedom that I lost in the work accident that disabled me. If this all seems a bit much, well I guess it might be but if you had the same trouble walking that I do... If you live in an area prone to slippery ice patches, you should have a pair of these on your shoes. They go on and are remove easily, dont mar a floor and give you a sure footing on a slippery surface. I cant imagine a better product for basic, winter outdoor safety. Best thing since sliced bread My wife had been on me for years to try these since I work outside. Since we only get snow/ ice maybe 10-20 days a year here I just did not bother. Well we got a real good dumping of snow (for us) that came with 20 deg weather for a couple weeks. I finally gave in and tried these. I dont know why I waited. I went from slipping all over trying to walk in the packed ice, to almost feeling like I was walking on bare dry ground. They are amazing. Easy to put on and off, and they just work great. Yaktrax and us My wife and I live with two Viszlas. These dogs love to romp afield. The result is we spend at least an hour or more a day walking, some times leashed to these two on our morning trundle but mostly where they can freely run on the trails and roads of a state-owned wildlife preserve here in Central New York. In the summer we grab our Nordic walking sticks and put in a couple of miles a day. Winter creates special problems. The unplowed roads of the state land are used by snowmobilers and skiers, and more often than not are slick with ice or hard-packed snow. Yaktrax allow us to remain active in the winter. The traction provided is outstanding. In almost all conditions we have been able to traverse the ice-slick byways of the wildlife area, an activity we would never attempt wearing ordinary hiking boots. Back in civilization, the Yaktrax have many times provided safety in slippery situations as they have the advantage of being easy to put on and remove. For local errands we carry regular Yaktrax in the car. We use the Yaktrax Pro for our longer daily hikes. The combination of Yaktrax Pros on hiking boots and our walking sticks means we are very seldom stymied by poor walking conditions. seemed like a good idea Tried them out today for the 1st time. Was a little difficult to get them on my boots but not bad considering I have not used them before. Walked over some snow to get to the sidewalk and 1 came off. OK, I figured I just didnt get them securely on. Put it back on and walked again through the snow and it came off again. Put it in my pocket and decided to walk with the 1 to see how it worked. Crossed the street and walked through a small amount of snow again and the other one came off too. Not only would they not stay on my feet, they are clear and very difficult to see in the snow. My guess is that they probably work really well on ice but there cannot be any snow. If you choose to buy them try and find something other than clear so if they do come off you can find to return, which is what I am going to do Yaktrax These are excellent. We bought them to prevent me from slipping with my broken ankle. They offer stability on the ice. Good idea! Fragile Having had two pairs myself and having gifted another four pairs, I can say that Yaktrax Walkers are a good idea but one poorly executed. Spiral wires are held in place by a frame of elasticized plastic. The plastic is quite fragile and the problem occurs because the wires arent long enough to cover the entire expanse of the shoes sole (which would prevent chafing of the plastic with the roadway). Too soon the plastic chafes and breaks - never a full winter of use, in my experience. Before they chafe through, they are excellent. I would recommend that anyone ignoring my review, pay the extra that the Pro model costs because sooner or later you will almost certainly walk out of the standard (strapless) model and lose it before you know that its gone. Good Footing on Ice Bought these to help with footing on Ice. I am a CareTaker for the Disabled. These are easy to put on and Take off. They help me stabilize and remain upright when I am helping someone in or out of the Van and Buildings. You do have to take them off before walking on the tile floor. But overall a great Item. Yaktrax's are the best Yaktraxs are unbeatable. They give the greatest traction in all icy conditions. I run a high mountain camp and have tried many ice traction devises. In icy conditions, CAUTION, is always the most important factor, no matter what the devise. In walking indoors all devises can be hazardous, it depends on the care you use while walking. My staff and I have used Yaktraxs for years. For inside staff, regular Yaktraxs are the best. They put them on to walk from their cabin or car to the office and pop them off once inside. For my outside staff, the Yaktrax Pros cant be beat. They are rugged and dont ware out. The strap over the front of the boot keeps them in place in most situations. When coming inside it is best and easiest to slip the boots off and to step into indoor shoes. For long Life - take a little time - when putting "Traxs" on, make sure they slip into the grooves in the soles of the boots and if the end of a spring starts to catch, use a pair of pliers to squeeze it back into place. The Yaktrax Pros I have on now have lasted me for three years and counting. |
