er, not what I expected     On: 2009-04-02

I ordered this jacket in Fern green, which looked online to be a bright, kind of granny smith apple green. well, its actually a soft, muted army green. ok, I still like it. maybe even more than the color I was expecting. it has a soft sheen to it, much like sateen (not satin) sheets, & the ivy design is not actually embroidered, but its an interesting negative-pattern effect, which is cool. it sort of shows up when you look at an angle. :) I ordered a large-> I usually wear a med/large. Im 55", proportioned, not a heffer, not a supermodel.
this coat has sleeves that would fit my 63" husband! no kidding. they are abnormally long for the size of this jacket (like Denise Huxtable made it) and I felt dwarfed by the odd puffiness at the wrist; sort of like a kid wearing her moms coat. still excited, I attempt to zip her up. its tough. zipper is actually great quality, but the shape of this thing is soo long (hence parka length) and too narrow in the hip. It is designed to completely cover the rear end. so, to fit in this jacket correctly, one should be about 510"ish, long-armed, broad in the shoulder, with no hips to speak of. more like a linebacker than a woman. a green linebacker.
I thought there was more of a cut-in shape at the natural waist, but its minimal. And what do you do if you dont want the hood up or take it off? leave the flaps a-wavin? awkward.
some good points:
eco-friendly. love that. color IS nice. shes waterproof & not bulky.
pit vent zips with mesh, velcro down the front instead of actual buttons/holes, the waist gator is able to snap to your pants(but actually hits below the hip & Im extra long-torsoed), goggle pocket with detachable wipe just inside the outer opening at breast level, the side pockets zip down, not up, it has a deep inner pocket in which you could smuggle a small wallaby if you had one, and the buttons are the size of quarters & sort of swirled tigers eye patterned. you can easily access the hem elastic adjustment thingy from inside the pockets. thats a nice feature. theres also a similar tightener at the back of the hood, separate from the face pulls, which I havent seen before.

I love the look of the coat, but I just dont know if I can make it work for me. its not flattering on, & it wasnt cheap, even on sale.
bummed.

Great quality jacket     On: 2009-01-11

Great jacket...comfortable and warm. Sleeves have an extra lining that hooks around your thumb so no skin is exposed between end of sleeve and beginning of gloves. Love the jacket and love the quality.
