Reviews great basic starter kit  by: on: 01-Mar 2010 has everything you need. i'd recommend buying more wax if you have more then one board or you go more then a half dozen times... its enough wax for two wax jobs. the file pisses me off... its the same direction on both sides, so when you flip the board and want to go from head to tail you can't cause the file only goes one way no matter how you hold it... wait and use it, you'll see what i mean. maybe look into a better file as well. the wire brush, useless. edge guide is 88 or 90 degree. iron works well. also get some citrus base cleaner, this kit has none. maybe a hard nylon brush too. but if you don't know what your doing or you just want bare minimum to do your own board. this will work Decent Beginner Kit by: on: 27-Jan 2010 Picked up this kit to take care of my two pairs of skis. The case is pretty nice looking and handy...just the right size if you're only taking care of one or two pair of skis. There is a little extra room in a mesh zippered are for ski wax(say maybe 3-100gram containers) and a 4" brush or something. The "lid" has a few extra tiny pockets that could be used for a utility knife and maybe a lighter or something for the p-tex. As far as the included pieces of the kit, you get: 10" Poly Scraper, Metal Scraper for p-tex, grinding stone for deburring, long file, 2 small p-tex sticks(1 clear, 1 black), a scotchbrite pad, an edge sharpening tool, a TINY brass brush(useless I think...unless you're structuring a small repair), a small bar of Dakine All-Temp Nitrous Wax(reg. parafin I believe at about 60-75grams good for at least 3-4 waxes depending on your ski size/last time you waxed) and the iron. Oh, a product tag with warranty info and a little instruction booklet about the iron. The small tools all work ok, but I would invest in some higher quality/more feature rich tools if you're going to be taking care of more than one pair of skis often. In particular the edge tuning tool. The angles aren't adjustable and it doesn't have any little casters/bearings to help kid along the edge of the ski/board. Also, if you're going to tune more than two pair...I'd probably invest in a better iron. The iron works fine, but a heavier base plate would be nicer for more even heating and longer heat retention. The cord stress reliever part was actually inside the iron and I had to dig it out and pop it into place which was a pain...but I imagine it was a fluke. The iron DID work flawlessly for me kicking on and off as needed and the results were great. The only things I would add to this set are more detailed instructions(for skis as well), more wax(maybe 3 different temps and an all-temp), and a good set of brushes for removing old wax and adding structure as well as one for polishing. Some nylon, horsehair, and brass brushes would be great. All in all, it's a decent kit for getting into tuning your own equipment. Hop on the US Toko Wax website to look up more detailed instructions to get you off to a great start. Oh, I also received a bonus bar of Toko All-Temp wax(250gram size- huge) when I ordered from Nuclear Sporting Goods. The shipping was crazy fast via Priority Mail as well which was a nice surprise. great kit! by: on: 21-Jan 2010 After having most of my tuning supplies gradually disappear every time I lent them out I decided to pickup this full kit from dakine. The iron works well and all of the included items are good quality. The bag was also large enough for me to cram in some other goodies I had lying around which was nice. They should have included more ptex, wax and in depth instructions on different ways to tune various equipment especially for a first time tuner... I docked one star because of this. Nuclear Sporting Goods tossed in a huge bar of ToKo all-temp wax for me though which has been great this season and their shipping was very fast! Great product, highly recommended. View All Tuning |
